Sign of the Week: Cyclists may be on roadway

Sign of the Week is a weekly feature here on the SenSen Driving School blog that demystifies some common head-scratching signs you’ll see as a driver.

This week we will be discussing this sign because it is very important to know what it means so we can keep cyclists safe. Yes, we have many bike lanes in Vancouver, but there are still certain roads that we need to share. These are the ones we need to be extra careful with.

As you can see, this sign is yellow. If you’ve been reading my blog posts, you would know the yellow means it is a warning sign.

As you are learning and practicing, you will undoubtedly come across signs like this warning you that cyclists may be on the roadway. Watch out for them! The ICBC text book tells us if we are looking to pass/go around cyclists, we need to leave as least one metre of space between our car and them. I would recommend leaving at least one metre and a half or two. You can never be too safe with cyclists as they can be very unpredictable.

Stay sharp out there! Drive Safe. Drive Smart. Drive with Confidence.
